The first episode of Life is Strange is now free, forever

Beginning today, publisher Square Enix is offering the first chapter of its critically-acclaimed serial at no charge.

I think at this point we can consider Life is Strange an unmitigated success, financially but especially critically. I've lost count of the number of awards and accolades it's racked up, inside of as well as far beyond the conventional games press.

So it should come as no surprise that publisher Square Enix, looking to draw more players in for its five-part adventure series, has announced the first episode is now free to download on all platforms: PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PC. It's also due to come out on Linux platforms sometime in the near future.

I should caveat that the first chapter does start off a little slow, but that's in the nature of an adventure game more about a misfit teen in a high school full of bullies than, say, an action game where you hit the ground shooting. Give Max and Chloe a chance, and if the reviews are anything to go by, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
