Remembering Robin Williams, Zelda's number one fan

Comedian, actor, father, and (yes) gamer.

Robin Williams -- who sadly passed away on August 11th in 2014, four years ago as of tomorrow -- was a universally beloved actor, known for roles as diverse as The Birdcage to Aladdin's blue Genie. But he was also an ardent fan of video games, from Call of Duty to Warcraft. He was such a fan, he even named his daughter after one.

Zelda Williams (yes, really!) has followed in her father's footsteps, performing in live-action and voice roles since the mid-90s. She's turned up in television shows and animated series, including The Legend of Korra and the upcoming Transformers: Cyberverse, where she'll play Windblade. But back in 2011, Zelda also appeared alongside her father in a commercial for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, which you can check out below.

Naming children after video game characters has grown increasingly common in recent years. Understandably, since the generation of people who have grown up around games are now having children! For instance, the United States Social Security Administration recorded five infants named Sephiroth in 2017. We're not kidding. Someday there are going to be whole classrooms full of Aerithes and Cerseis, and there's nothing you can do about it.

As for Robin Williams, the man may be gone but he's left behind a tremendous legacy. A legend, you could say.
